This week’s infographic is from a special report Jeffrey Brainard wrote for The Chronicle of Higher Education over two years ago detailing the numbers of bachelor’s degrees awarded in the humanities from 1988 – 2008. Compiled using data collected by the U.S. Department of Education, Brainard writes that the chart shows that “the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in the humanities has grown faster since 1987 than the number in other fields, increasing humanities’ market share–from about 10 percent that year to 12 percent in 2008.”
