The forum kicks off a series of events meant to advocate and showcase the arts and humanities in upstate New York and particularly in the New York Six. Keynote speaker is Alan Liu, professor of English at the University of California and director of 4humanities. Prof. Liu will give a presentation on Values, Strategies, and Technologies for Humanities Advocacy in the Digital Age. He will also lead a workshop discussion on “The Heart of the Matter” report, which was produced by the American Academy of Arts & Science’s Commission on the Humanities and Social Sciences. The goal of the discussion will be to outline the report’s structure, raise awareness of specific issues and proposals and discuss possible contributions.
The forum, which is open to the public, will be held in the historic Nott Memorial at Union College. The agenda is as follows:
Noon -12:50 p.m. Meet and greet over light lunch
1 – 1:15 p.m. Introductions
1:15 – 2:15 p.m. Professor Alan Liu: “Values, Strategies, and Technologies for Humanities Advocacy in the Digital Age.”
2:15-2:30 p.m. Short break with coffee and pastries
2:30 – 4:30 p.m. Workshop discussion on “The Heart of the Matter.” Moderated by Alan Liu.
